Retail Watch program launched to help Chico retailers

"Chico >> A new “Retail Watch” program to help retailers curb shoplifting has been unveiled by the Chico Police Department, Chico Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Chico Business Association.

A series of meetings has been announced after Chico retailers shared loss information and “expressed concerns about increasing theft and decreasing accountability,” according to a press release from the Chico Chamber on Tuesday.

Chico Police Chief Mike O’Brien decided the format of monthly meetings would help open the lines of communication between the police department, and large and small retailers. Monthly meetings will eventually expand to include information sharing, arrest data and possibly signs for participating business.

The monthly meetings will start in February and reservations to ensure adequate space are being taken through the chamber at 891-5556.

The meetings are only open to retail owners, managers, employees and loss prevention officers, according to the press release."
