Community Development Update on August 18, 2016
August 9, 2016 CHICO, CA: On Thursday, August 18th, the City of Chico, Chico Chamber of Commerce and Valley Contractors Exchange will host a Community Development Update from 12-1p.m. in the Old Municipal Building Conference Room, 441 Main Street Chico. Community Development Director, Mark Wolfe will provide an update on building permit plan check process timelines, an overview of permit activity, staffing changes in the Community Development Department, and an update on online permitting and new regulatory standards. Q&A will follow.
“This is a perfect time for all of the players to get together,” says Kate Leyden, Executive Director of Valley Contractors Exchange. “We’re experiencing more new-construction and home remodeling, combined with new building codes and a challenging city budget. An update and conversation will help everyone work off the same set of plans.”
Katie Simmons, President & CEO of the Chico Chamber, says, “Transparency and predictability in the permitting process always rank high on the list of business concerns, and while we’ve seen improvements, there are still challenges. Given the State’s increasingly rigid regulatory standards and the City’s financial challenges which limit staffing and technological advancements, good communication and realistic expectations are key.”
