Chico Chamber of Commerce Now Accepting Applications for Business & Professional Advancement Scholar

October 20, 2016 (CHICO, CA)    The Chico Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for their educational scholarship, spearheaded by the Chico Young Professionals Organization (YPO) in 2012.  Through their Community Corporation, the Chamber has been awarding annual scholarships to students in Northern California pursuing careers in Butte County.  The deadline to apply is December 2, 2016.

“Supporting students who plan to establish careers here in Chico is a great way for the Chamber to invest in our future workforce and economic vitality,” said Katie Simmons, President and CEO of the Chamber.  “We are pleased to be awarding this scholarship with our Young Professionals Organization. Legacy partners of the Chamber including Allevity HR & Payroll, Golden Valley Bank, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, and Tri Counties Bank fund the scholarship every year.”

Danie Schwartz with MC2 and President of the Chico Young Professionals Organization says, “This scholarship allows us to identify future business leaders in Chico, and to support them in achieving their professional dreams here. I highly encourage students to apply and then to become involved in the Chico YPO to start making those business connections today.”

In 2015, the Chamber awarded two scholarships to Chico residents who are going on to attend California State University, Chico and Butte-Glenn Community College this fall.  The recipients were presented with scholarship certificates at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner held in January 2016.  Scholarship recipients this year will also be presented with their certificates during the Chamber’s 79th Annual Dinner & Business Awards Ceremony on January 19, 2017.

The Chico Chamber of Commerce will award approximately one to four scholarships in amounts ranging from $250 to $1000.  Students who seek a diploma, associates, bachelors, law, or masters degree in business or a related subject from an educational institution in Butte County are eligible to apply.  Current involvement in the Chamber, or employment with a Chamber of Commerce member, is preferred.
