This annual event is free and open to the public BUT RSVPs are required as seating is limited. The event is expected to reach maximum capacity.
The Business Summit will include an annual State of the City address by the Mayor of the City of Chico, Sean Morgan. Other presentations include: a Business Climate Report from Chair of the Chamber Board of Directors, Anastacia Snyder with Catalyst Domestic Violence Services; a Chico Economic Snapshot for 2018 delivered by Mark Francis with Golden Valley Bank; and a Downtown Report presented by Melanie Bassett with the Downtown Chico Business Association. Following these presentations, audience Q&A will be encouraged.
“2018 is an election year so let’s jump into January by talking about the issues affecting our community. At this year’s Business Summit we’ll hear an update on our local economy as well as a downtown report, and the Mayor will deliver the annual State of the City Address. Reserve your seat now as the room will fill up, and come prepared with your questions. We encourage you to join us as the ‘Voice of Business’ this year.” says Katie Simmons, President & CEO of the Chico Chamber of Commerce.
“What does it mean to ACT Chico? At this year’s State of the City I as the Mayor will address, as always, where we’ve been in the last year, but more importantly, a vision for the future that allows and encourages our community to ACT to bring about the positive changes we so desperately need. ACT is an acronym and its meaning will be revealed at the State of the City.” says Sean Morgan, Mayor of the City of Chico.
“The Chico Economic Snapshot is designed to be a one-page ‘overview’ of our local economy, telling us where the economy has been quarter to quarter and year to year since our base year of 2007. The Index is based on five main components, all of which are seasonally adjusted and equally weighted. At the Business Summit, I will review our newly released numbers and our Business Confidence Survey, all of which can be found at www.goldenvalley.bank.” says Mark Francis, President & CEO with Golden Valley Bank.
“2017 was a monumental year for Downtown Chico with the overwhelmingly-approved Property Based Improvement District, officially formed in November. With a 500K annual budget now leading to 220 hours of service per week in the downtown area, we are expecting to see a cleaner, safer environment for shoppers and employees. With that, we have project areas that need special attention in 2018 and safety cameras planned for parks and green spaces. We are polishing up our iconic and historic downtown and hope you’ll spend time – and local dollars – with us in Downtown Chico supporting our vibrant community.” says Melanie Bassett, Executive Director of the Downtown Chico Business Association.
